About Watts Life Technologies

Watts Life Technologies, LLC is an independent software engineering and technology consulting firm based in Mill Valley, California.

The firm was formed around a straightforward idea: most teams do not need a large agency, and most projects do not fail for lack of ambition. They fail in the gap between a design and a shipped release — in the migration nobody scheduled, the test suite that stopped running, the deployment that only one person knows how to do. We do that work. We take on the parts of a product that need an experienced engineer for a season, and we hand them back in a state your own team can carry.

We work with founders building a first product, with small companies whose software has outgrown the person who originally wrote it, and with in-house engineering teams that need a specific capability — a native iOS application, a backend service, a deployment pipeline — without adding headcount for it. Engagements run from a few weeks of focused work to a standing part-time role over many months.

What we believe about software

Shipping is the whole job

Code that is not in production has not helped anyone yet. We plan work in increments that can actually be released, and we treat the release process itself — the build, the review, the rollback plan — as part of the deliverable rather than an afterthought.

Software is read far more often than it is written

We optimize for the engineer who opens the file two years from now, quite possibly one of yours. That means conventional structure over clever structure, tests that document intent, and dependencies chosen for how well they age rather than for how new they are.

Maintenance is not a phase

Operating systems change, SDKs are deprecated, certificates expire, and libraries go unmaintained. We plan for that from the first commit, and we are happy to stay on afterward to handle it.

Small scope, direct communication

You work with the engineer doing the work. There is no account manager between the question and the answer, and no incentive to grow an engagement past what the problem requires.

Our own products

We also build and operate our own software. Arcarrow is a project management tool for independent architecture firms, pairing project tracking and firm-wide dashboards with an AI chat assistant for scheduling and coordinating client work. HomeHub gives homeowners an instant estimated market value for a property, shown alongside a map of the comparable local sales it is drawn from. And My Inventory Tracker is an iOS app for cataloging a home's belongings room by room, with iCloud-backed storage and exportable reports for insurance or moving.

Running our own products keeps us close to the realities our clients live with: platform review, privacy requirements, customer support, and the long-term cost of early decisions.
